Gov. Steve Beshear bill to legalize casino gambling
One of the most anticipated pieces of legislation of this or any recent Kentucky General Assembly session – Gov. Steve Beshear’s bill to legalize casino gambling – is expected to be filed by the end of the week.
It’s about time, say lawmakers tired of waiting, eager to see the details and girding for what will certainly be a contentious and politically charged battle over billions of dollars in potential new revenue.

After huddling with key Democrats last week – some of whom have grown inpatient waiting for the bill to drop – Beshear said he expects legislation for a constitutional amendment to be filed by the end of next week. If passed by the legislature, it would still have to be approved by voters in a referendum in November.
It is time the voters have their voices heard on this important revenue issue.
