Another United States Representative has introduced a bill in favor of online gambling. This time it was Representative Shelley Berkley who introduced a bill calling for a one year study of online gambling by the National Academy of Sciences. Berkeley has stated she would like to see the UIGEA repealed but she was also quoted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal saying, "One of the advantages of this legislation is that it doesn't take a side," she said. "It doesn't say online gambling is good or bad. It says 'Let's study the issue.' A week ago Barney Frank introduced the Online Gambling Regulation & Enforcement Act 2007 which calls for online gambling to be legalized. Berkley's bill has some support. Over 60 representatives are co sponsors of the bill including Rep. John Conyers, Rep. Frank LoBiondo and Rep. Barney Frank. The Review-Journal also reported that Representative Bob Wexler is trying to introduce another bill, which would carve out an exemption from the ban for online poker players. The main points of Barkley's bill would assess the impact of the ban approved last year, Examine technological methods used by other countries which license and regulate online gambling and analyze recent rulings on online gambling by the World Trade Organization.
