New record for overall Internet poker traffic

Online poker got off to a fast start in 2008 - as several rooms and the industry as a whole experienced record highs of real-money simultaneous players in the opening days of the new year. January 7'th, the total combined real-money peak traffic of online poker rooms exceeded the previous record of 95,000 poker players, a high that had been set only days earlier. Individual rooms and networks that saw records broken this week included OnGame - Everest - International Poker Network and PKR. Ongame hit the symbolic mark of 10,000 poker players at peak for the first time, and industry giant PokerStars.com surpassed their own record with a monster tally of over 23,000 on January 6th.
