The Boston Red Sox did not want to think of themselves too highly after winning the game against the
Tampa Bay Rays, but David Ortiz admits to feeling positively glowing after finally challenging the top team of the MLB, and winning the bout at that.
Winning against the Rays for the first time Ortiz has been quoted as saying that with the way the Rays have been giving the Red Sox some pretty hard time on the field, the victory was nothing short of sweet. During the game, both he and Kevin Youkilis gave their support to Clay Bucholz, right-hander for the team, during the 6-1 winning game on Monday evening. He added that the Rays were known to be the best among all the other teams, so playing their best was absolutely necessary. In a span of five tries, the Red Sox were finally able to beat the Rays for the very first time and was able to climb the four games considered to be the season’s best, in a third consecutive win that began on an unsteady path from Philadelphia. Beginning in August, Bucholz was able to secure his eighth consecutive win, considered to be the longest streak by someone from the Red Sox team, ever since Roger Clemens outperformed others in nine consecutive wins from 1992 to 1993. One run was permitted by the right-hander, however, coming from Carlos Pena with his eighth homer, as well as six hits through six innings. As for Hideki Okajima and Daniel Bard, baserunners were not allowed the entire time.
Team effort Dustin Pedroia observed that during the recently concluded game, the Red Sox players were not really focused on beating the challenging Rays but focusing more on themselves and giving the game their best. According to Pedroia, the team had begun to fare well with pitching, and with a few runs, the guys were able to deliver a stellar performance. Even the middle of the year, the Red Sox are just focused on playing, and challenging some of the best teams there are, looking for surefire ways to gain the lead, and that for Pedroia is a pretty good signal. In the second inning, Ortiz homered again, a fifth one within the span of his last nine games, taking the solo shot off Wade Davis. With five homers and 12 RBIs from his latest nine games, Youkilis clinched the game at 6-0, taking the spotlight from Lance Cormier. Joe Maddon, manager for the Rays, admitted that the Red Sox prevailed. However, he cannot say that the Rays actually played poorly. “The other team simply beat us.”
Good start Since 2001, the Rays were able to enjoy an early lead at 32-13 all throughout the major leagues, due in part to a 19-5 road record, which had included a 4-game brush off with the Red Sox in April, held at Fenway Park. But this time, the Red Sox prevailed. Maddon discloses how the Rays had some openings early in the game, but it was clear that his boys did not take enough advantage.
