Strategy, Playing Style and That Watch The Bodog Poker Open V starts up this weekend and it’s bigger and better than ever before with more guaranteed cash, additional money thrown into prize pools and a schedule that’s perfect for every type of player out there. This year, the Main Event champion gets to claim more than just a bundle of cash and bragging rights — they’re getting a Corum Championship Chronograph worth over $5,000. Bodog’s best and brightest will be competing in the event and players can look forward to staring down the online poker room’s pros, Evelyn Ng and Amanda Musumeci at the virtual tables.
Bodog Poker Open Strategies When asked about strategies for the tournaments that make up the Bodog Poker Open, both of the pros talked frankly about their approaches to the game. Amanda said, “Early in the tournament, I find it best to usually play a bit more on the conservative side. This can help in several ways: you'll have some time to size up your table and opponents; you'll create a tight image for yourself so that you can play a bit looser in the later, more important stages of the events; and lastly you can prevent yourself from busting out of the tournament in an early stage by overplaying some of the more marginal hands you may be raising or calling with.” Without giving too much away, Evelyn discussed how those sharing a table with her can expect to see her play: “Players might notice that I am not in every hand trying to steal every button and blind that I can. But the pots that I do enter I would probably tend to be the aggressor.” Amanda expanded a bit, discussing what players might see from each other when they’re competing in the Main Event or any of the other tournaments that comprise the Bodog Poker Open. “I think that generally Bodog provides great soft fields. However, on this occasion, we may see some very competent players popping up out of the woodwork. Since there will be a mix of good and bad players, it's important to pay as much attention as possible to your tables, and to be taking notes on everyone and how they play."
Who said I have to give it away The Corum Championship Chronograph came up in the conversation, of course, as it’s made by the same people behind the World Series of Poker bracelets and is highly coveted. There was some discussion about who they’d give it to since it’s a man’s watch. Evelyn demanded to know “Who said I have to give it away?!?” while laughing. Amanda, however, had someone special in mind: “I'd either keep the watch as memorabilia or give it to my grandmother. She loves collecting things. And she cries (tears of happiness of course) every time one of us achieves anything that she feels is extraordinary. Seeing her that overwhelmed with happiness is a great gift to me.” With a total of sixteen tournaments in two different categories, there’s definitely a place for every player out there at
